As men and as humans we live in the tension between our hearts aching for a better world and the reality of our current world, which is clearly broken. Last week a friend and co-worker of mine lost his 16 year old son unexpectedly. A Nashville school was the site of another shooting. War is raging on the other side of the world. You don’t need me to tell you this world is broken.
F3 isn’t a Christian organization, but I am a Christian and that impacts how I view the world. So allow me to share for just a moment. In John 16, Jesus tells his disciples the things that he has shared are so they can have peace. The world has trouble. But in Jesus we have peace. And while we can’t fix everything, Jesus can. “I have overcome the world” he says. He’s already done it. “I have.” So for now we still live in a world with the weight of brokenness. But there is freedom in knowing that 1) we are called to work for the good of our communities and families and world but 2) it isn’t on us to fix it all. We can’t do that on our own. Remember that you’re an important contributor, but also remember that you are finite and small. There’s a tension in those things too. It’s bigger than us. But not so big that we don’t matter. Don’t lose heart. Jesus has already overcome the world. Take comfort in him even beyond your circumstances. (Also disclaimer again, F3 isn’t explicitly Christian, but I am and this was on my heart to share.)
