Downrange:
Warm up:
- Classic start with some quick-tempo side straddle hops (excellent form PAX)
- Move into another tried and true exercise and seemingly the only one named after a piece of literature (Oh wow, PAX, you’re so cultured!)
- Then, some amount of Star Wars themed leg lifts — missing Red Ryders’ background music
- Umm — merkins? I think merkins next. We did 15 because PAX always think it’s going to stop at 10 (gotcha!)
- Wait, we did weed pickers before merkins. Oh well.
- Then…. Mosey! Go!
The Thang:
- YHC hadn’t planned on Q’ing this morning, so he pulled up the first beatdown he ever attended (07/28/20 w/ PAX Gates – Q & Ledger). First stop – Stonehenge #1.
- The Dogwood festival was in it’s early stages of setting up and so, Stonehenge #1 had been overtaken by supplies — there was no way PAX could box jump on the wall, much less crab walk around it!
- We ran past, as YHC tried to think over how he would audible…
- Ah – the bridge over the rock pile! That’s good for stuff. To the bridge!
- Strung along the path to the bridge were endless white tents set up for the Dogwood festival, that wrapped around the duck pond, past the light bridge (I kind of like that name, the “Light Bridge” — that one bridge over the rock pile with the lights that we use as markers for how far to traverse)
- At the Light Bridge – a DORA (classic). Leg-focused. Fan-favorites.
- Lunge walk from first lamp post to second lamp post and back
- While your partner squats. Next round, he monkey humps. Then, finally, he squats bears.
- Front of the legs – quads and such – are now sufficiently warmed and maybe a bit past that because PAX did what good PAX would do and didn’t stop monkey humping until their partner finished.
- So now, back of the legs. Logical, yes?
- 10 Eastern European deadlifts on each leg
- Bernie down the bridge and back
- PAX Soft Hands suggested calf raises! On the stairs — go!
- 20 reg-you-larh, 20 pigeon-toed, 20 slue footed, 10 single leg each leg
- PAX Smalls — upon YHC’s request — suggested a good back of the leg workout to cap us off
- Smalls: “Crab walk uphill?”
- *facepalm*
- Who invited this guy anyways?
- Smalls: “Crab walk uphill?”
- So, begrudgingly, we moseyed to the bottom of the hill that leads up to that flat field area. That hill that’s right next to the parking deck for the botanical gardens. And then there’s that other small paved trail that runs down towards the dog park? You know that one? Yeah, it’s pretty steep and is at least 30 yards.
- Smalls had us crab walk up the small paved trail. Phew!
- Passersby had to stop and double-take at the 4 grunting crabs crawling up a hill in the middle of piedmont park
- Done with that — up the hill to the top flat part.
- PAX and YHC were gifted with a timely sunrise to lift our spirits and carry us through our quick ab set
- 30 LBCs
- 25 Flutter Kicks
- 25 American Hammers
- Okay – now for the grand finale
- 11s on the stairs in the back – started with 10 burpees at the top and 1 squat at the very bottom
- By this point PAX (or at least YHC was wiped) – we cut it off at 6 burpees and 5 squats so we could mosey back to the flag in time
- It was a quiet mosey back to the flag as YHC and PAX worked to regain their breath
- Made it – right on time. 7:30. Done.
