The Thang:

Mosey to “The Gate at the Westside Park” where the PAX endured their first challenge: an Atlanta trivia game where responses determined the number of burpees the PAX would complete in the forthcoming Dora.

  • What is Atlanta’s symbol?
  • What was the first name of the city of Atlanta?
  • Atlas is the Greek God of what?
  • The Gate at the Westside Park is inspired by?

The PAX was on course to reduce the 5 prescribed burpees to just two but were stumped by the Greek God of astronomy/the heavens, from whom we get Atlantic and thus Atlanta.

  • Dora (Pacesetter runs ~50 yard, completes 3 Burpees, returns)
    • 100 Step Ups (per leg)
    • 100 Lunges (per leg)
    • 100 In Out Squat (AKA Jack Squats)

Liberated from the Night’s Watch and twilight infant feeding, @SoftHands joined the PAX. Surely SoftHands would have known that Atlas was the God of astronomy.

Mosey to “Birth of Atlanta”. Relishing the professorial life he never pursued, the Q waxed poetic on the history of the “Birth of Atlanta” sculpture and its journey from the Underground to the Westside Park.

“The Corporation for Olympic Development in Atlanta commissioned artist and architect Amy Landesberg to create a piece that commemorated the founding of Atlanta. CODA asked Ms. Landesberg to design a piece that would “evoke a mood of dignified resilience, renewal, and restoration – a testament to Atlanta’s persistent vitality.” Ms. Landesberg’s creation, The Birth of Atlanta…is an abstract reference to the Phoenix….It consists of a steel frame with seven pairs of perforated metal “feathers and wings” outstretched, as if in flight.”

Taking our cue (pun intended) from the quote, the PAX outstretched their arms, as in flight, for the following exercises:

  • Arm Circles
  • Reverse Arm Circles
  • Arm Pretzel
  • Shoulder Press
  • Superman

The PAX then moseyed to an open field for the next progression:

  • “Keep it 100 “(First to get to 100 triggers the PAX to recover and mosey to opposite side of field and start the next Keep it 100 exercise)
    • 100 LBCs
    • 100 Merkins
    • 100 Mountain Climbers
    • 100 Shoulder Taps

With ten minutes left, the PAX reached what was to be the last progression of the workout. The Q neglected to mention that this hill –The Enterprise Hill– would be a new tradition for any new or downrange PAX at The Enterprise. The PAX charged the hill with four exercises: (1) Reverse Bear Crawl, (2) Lunges, (3) Bear Crawls, and (4) Backpedal. The speed of the PAX kept the Q on his toes and inspired the next progression on the stairway near the Parking Lot 1 pavilion.

  • 10 x Calf Raises (Standard, Toes Out, Heels Out, Right Foot Only, Left Foot Only, Standard)

With minutes to spare the PAX returned to the flag for Don Quixotes and WGS.

CoT:

Purple Cow reflected on the workout and new year with following quote from The Gate at the Westside Park architect Pierluca Maffely: “The gate is a moment of transition, an opportunity to think about what you leave behind and prepare for what you are about experience.”

Announcements: Look out on Slack for information re: (1) a 3rd F opportunity and (2) the Jan. 28 Convergence.
