Beltline Blue light special – 2022-01-29

AO: Terminus
QiC: Gates
Pax Count: 6
Pax List: Flathead, Gates, Gronkins, Martina, ROMEO
FNG Count: 1
Downrange:

Conditions were cold and brisk  with a surprise dusting of snow at Terminus this a.m. YHC pulled up right after the clown car of Martina, Gronkins, and a FNG! Wait, a FNG when it’s below freezing with a feels like wind chill of 14? Well yes there was – one of Gronkins’ roommates that got on board the EH train. FNG said he wanted to come because of the temps and early start…well, FNG, you’re in luck because there are plenty of even earlier start times and, while I can not guarantee much colder, there will absolutely be some wet weather  (just come to The Rig on a Thursday, in fact this Thursday is calling for lots of liquid sunshine). While standing around microflexing, YHC and a few others started some pre-warmup warmups to, yes, warmup. A few other PAX – Romeo and Flathead – joined the group and we began.

Warm up:

Motivators (10 IC), High Knees IC, Don Quixote IC, Merkins IC, and a stretch OYO to get ready for a Beltline beatdown.

The Thang:

We started our mosey heading down the Eastside Beltline with stops at several of the blue lights on the trail for a special (YHC is old enough to remember KMart Blue-light specials so in honor of that, the PAX got a  deal). The deal the PAX received is that we only started with 5 burpees and built up from there.

At 4 various spots on the Beltline (at least 3 at blue lights) we stopped to perform the following

  • Burpees, Push-up Toe Touch, and LBC 4 count; started with 5 reps of each and with each stop added 5 more reps (5, 10, 15, 20).

By the 4th stop at the bridge over North Ave, the 20 burpees definitely warmed us up. The steps at Kroger were too icy to use so we modified to use the entrance to the Kroger parking lot (definitely a potential spot for inclement weather).

11s – at bottom (near Kroger and Ford Factory Parking) did 1 Stone Mountain Push up and at top near entrance to Beltline did 10 Bonnie Blairs; repeato until 10 SMPs and 1 BB

Mosey over to Shed at PCM along the Beltline for 2 sets of the following

  • 10 Pistol Squats (5 each leg with modifications as needed)
  • 10 American Hammer IC 4 count
  • 10 Jump Squats OYO
  • 10 Merkins IC 4 count (2nd set was diamond merkins)

Indian Run back to Meadow with a sprint at VA bridge to Monroe.

YHC did not want to deny the PAX of playing in the snow so we finished with some Mary in the meadow

  • 10 Aussie Snow Angels IC 4 count
  • 10 Micheal Phelps IC 4 count
  • Wilson reflection in the snow

CoT:

Martina announced Smalls moving 2/5 and could use assistance with the move and The Pulpit Pull Up bar install date – 2/12.  We named our FNG, welcome Tofu! Prayers for Flathead’s family that is moving today in VA in winter storm Kenan and prayers for those recovering from Covid-19. YHC shared about God’s use of trials to mature us (shared about a trial of my own in being a parent of young adults). Coffeeteria hosted at Martina’s this a.m. (thank you Martina).
