“I got the horse right here,

The name is Paul Revere,

And here’s a guy that says if the weather’s clear,

Can do,

Can do,

This guy says the horse can do.”

-Fugue for Tinhorns in Guys and Dolls (1955)

Fortunately, the weather was clear and these horses (I mean men) proved that they certainly can do!  When the bugle sounded, 23 hearty men had gathered to start their day with a little dose of Novocaine.  We began our horse racing themed beatdown in honor of Triple Crown season.

Warm up:

SSH IC x 15, Low Slow Squat IC x 15, Daft Punks x 5, Mountain Climbers IC x 15, Low Slow Merkins (3-1 count) IC x 15

Broke into 2 groups for a Cherokee Run down to Georgia State.  The faster group was dubbed the Preakness Stakes for the day while the almost as fast group became the Kentucky Derby.

Gathered inside the gate and did a few burpees waiting for the six.

Alternated El Capitan (deep walking lunge touching hands to ground at forward-most point of each step) and Bear Crawl to cross the parking lot.

Mosey up to the top of the first parking deck which today became Womack Park to host our race laps and stall exercises.

The Thang:

Broke into two groups, one on each side of the deck.

10 parking spaces on each end served as our stalls for each exercise.  Each round included performing the prescribed exercise 3 times (single count) in each stall beginning in the first one and then moving down the line to the next stall until you reached the end.  After completing the exercise in each stall you ran one full lap around the track running down one side and then sprinting back on the other side once you turned for the home stretch.  Then move on to the next exercise and repeat for five rounds.

Round one was Bonnie Blairs, round two was LBC’s, then Atomics, then Merkins, and ending with Star Jumps in round five.

Many encouraging calls of “Nice work men!” were heard by Team mom as his renegade running crew circled the track as well.

Plank and Al Gore for the six.

Mosey back to Georgia State parking lot for Mary:  Frog Crunches IC x 15, American Hammer IC x 15, Oblique Crunches (basically drunk hillbillies on your back) IC x 15.

Run back to COT OYO.  Switchboard had a strong start but Ricochet and Novocaine tried to answer while Diablo came on strong.  And the winner is ………………… Ricochet but a few lengths.

Great work by everyone.

CoT:

Team Mom took us out in style.

Announcements:

-Beginning next Wednesday (May 26th) there will be a new 6am workout at Brook Run added to the weekly schedule.  Switchboard has the first Q.  Manhole said that if there was an overwhelming desire to bring back the 6am Tues./Thursday beatdown that we could consider that but we will add Wed. for now at Brook Run and re-evaluate.

-Green Bean organizing group to do the Murph workout on Memorial Day.  Check with him if interested.
