Warm up:PAX garnered coffee from Panera Bread on Mt. Vernon, circled up around a table inside.
The Thang: YHC discussed the Q Source Manual, suggested by Smalls. This is essentially a leadership guide for the discussions containing some nice nuggets on group discussion. Like F3, it has 5 tenets:
- Start on Time
- Listen Well
- Be Personal
- Share, but don’t dominate the discussion
- Confidentiality- what happens at Panera stays at Panera (except when shared in the backblast!)
Summary of last week’s topic: Disruption, and how it kind of ties in with Language. We discussed how language is important to organizations. In F3, it gives the PAX a level of comfort and familiarity. Though the lexicon can be confusing and intimitading to an FNG, over time, it gives comfort and you know you can expect similar language at any AO. The Q also retains more respect and trust when the language is used properly. We also discussed how our culture has the tendency to “denature” words, using examples of gentleman, accoutability, and “priority”- Manhole discussed how someone else’s priority may or may not be the same as his.
Rambo pointed out a great question- “Has my team defined a unique language of our own for the purposes of influencing movement toward advantage?” We discussed how we can do this in our families and at work and how having a unique language/jargon can be beneficial.
